simpsonsgifs:

“Al… let’s have sex!”
“Ehh, no Peg.”

In a moment of quiet clarity this morning, I realized why I have been avoiding watching “Modern Family.”   Everyone’s been saying it’s funny, I read the quotes & see the screencaps here on tumblr, why haven’t I given it a shot?
Apparently, I don’t want to see Al Bundy rewarded for his years of bad behavior with a new “hot” Colombian1 woman.
My logical brain realizes that Ed O’Neill is a real person, just an actor playing his roles, and that he is neither Al Bundy nor this other guy.  But the part that clicks the remote control (or the Add to Queue button) can’t think of Ed as anyone but the j-hole who despised his wife and was filled with apoplectic rage by the mere thought of a fat woman wanting to buy shoes.  Why would I want to watch him essentially being proven right in his sexist worldview?  People like me (dumb people) are clearly who CBS execs had in mind when they created the character of Mary Richards as never-married, thus avoiding the connotation that she had divorced her TV husband Rob Petrie.
(Sorry for hijacking this post, SimpsonsGifs, but I just needed a pic of Al in his Simpsonized form)
1Thanks Alyssa for giving me the proper spelling
